Primal Rage (Sega Genesis, 1995) is a prehistoric-themed 2D fighting game that brings brutal, beast-on-beast combat to the arena. Developed by Atari Games and adapted for the Genesis, the game pits seven powerful creatures-dinosaurs and giant apes-against each other in a battle for dominance over a post-apocalyptic Earth known as "Urth."
Each fighter represents a god-like force of nature, such as Sauron (the noble T-Rex), Blizzard (an ice-powered ape), or Diablo (a fire-breathing beast). Players unleash claws, fangs, elemental attacks, and bone-crushing combos in intense one-on-one duels across ruined cities and volcanic wastelands.
While the Genesis version features scaled-down visuals and simplified controls compared to the arcade original, it retains the over-the-top violence, distinctive character designs, and primal energy that made Primal Rage a cult classic. With fatalities, a unique "energy recharge" mechanic, and an unforgettable cast of savage gods, this is one prehistoric brawler that's anything but extinct.
